Southern Closet beginning
Wayne and JoAnn Smith began Southern Closet Systems in 1983. Already having many years of experience as a custom furniture and cabinet maker, they were asked to build some closet systems for a model home to be featured in the first Tampa Bay’s “Parade of Homes” showcase. It was a hit and that was the beginning of shelf help with Southern Closets. Being the first independent locally owned closet company to the state of Florida, we depended mostly on our customers to spread the word. They have been doing it for over 30 years and are now the leading closet company in design, manufacturing and service for the entire Tampa Bay area for almost two decades.

Trained designers
Before a Designer ever walks through your door, at Southern Closet Systems they go through one of the most extensive training programs around. That includes classroom training as well as “shadowing” more experienced Designers for weeks on end. Everything it takes to provide an unsurpassed level of comfort and confidence as they create a storage portrait of their clients with an acute eye for detail and the finest materials. They’ll assess your needs on every level, take a detailed inventory of every item to be stored, and show you a range of solutions. Absorbing and manifesting your vision the entire way, your Designer will be there from initial consultation to final installation.
Needs assessment
The process begins with an initial in-home presentation and needs assessment by your experienced and professionally trained design expert. While the presentation will enlighten and educate you about our work and custom closet solutions, the needs assessment helps ensure that your closet is built around you. Your Designer will want to know how important this space is to each person who uses it as well as functional needs like who gets dressed first or who prefers what side of the closet. They’ll make a complete list of your inventory, measuring and surveying every inch of both your existing space and the items to be stored. And of course, there’s a question and answer process to make sure no current or future storage need has been overlooked.
Every budget

Showroom

Custom manufacturing
Everything at Southern Closet Systems is built to match the specific measurement and even more specific form and function of your closet. After every wood grain, door panel, and trim piece has been carefully selected to meet your needs and tastes, the Designer specifies the plans for manufacturing. Everyone at Southern Closet Systems, from the Designer, to the Production Team, to the Installer are intimately involved in the creation and realization of your dream.
Since all of the manufacturing and most of the finishing is done in their factory, installation takes from one to just a few days. This also means there’s not a lot of cutting, sanding, or other messy construction going on in your home. It goes without mention that the Installers always give the utmost consideration to you, your family and your home.
