Best Way to Organize Clothing in a Closet
Want to make getting dressed easy, fast without any headaches for you, your husband or children? Are you interested in getting the closets in your home neat, organized and highly functional? If you take these simple steps, you can make that dream a reality.
Declutter
Take everything out of your closet. Go through your clothes, shoes, accessories, belts, ties, scarves, hats, etc. Pull out what you wear often. Those items are an easy entry back into your closet. The items you don’t wear at all, are out of style, don’t fit, etc. get to find another home especially if it is damaged or worn. You can toss, sell, give away or donate.
Store
If you have items like sports gear, seasonable items, etc., find a new home for them. They don’t belong in your clothes closet.
Organize
This is when you sort your hanging items by type and color. Short items like shirts, skirts and other short items can be hung on double rods. Long dresses go on the full-length side of the closet. Arrange items by sleeve length and then by color.
Hangers
Hangers can take a space from a crowded unfriendly one to luxurious and inviting. Pick your favorite style hanger – plastic, wire, wood and you can even select the same color to make it look even more professional. Make the investment to switch over your hangers. You’ll be happy that you did it. Put extra unused hangers in one location for easy grabbing when you need it. Especially after laundry day.
Cubbies and Tiered Shelves
Put your foldable sweaters and items in cubbies, drawers, boxes, etc.
Place heavier items at the bottom of the pile, and lighter ones at the top. After folding, arrange garments by function (workout tops together, business tops together, etc.) and color (white to nude to bright colors to black).
Shoe Storage
Find a specific place to organize your shoes. This will make a BIG difference in how your closet looks, feels and functions. You have lots of choices: cabinet, rack on the floor, hanging shoe organizer, see-through plastic boxes or shelving so it stays neat and orderly.
Everyday Items
Use hooks to store everyday items like robes, night gown, and “around the house” clothing.
