There is a brief lull in the fall after the summer bustle and before the holiday whirlwind. In Tampa Bay the weather will be warm yet the calendar is full of get-togethers and presents. Put in some work now and you will be spared the stress down the road.
A Seasonal Sweep is in Order
Organize what you can once you have an idea of what is there. Get it all out and inspect it. You may not be in Florida to put away a winter coat for a tee, but there are pieces you do not wear.
As you put things back, break them down:
- What you will be using
- To be put in storage
- Something for a charity
- That needs a clean or mending this season
- Anything broken or beyond repair is trash
It is a good way to clear your head and see how much room you are really working with.
Put Some Space Aside for Guests
For those of us who have family over at the holidays, the guest closet or spare room should be in shape. All too often they are used as a dumping ground the rest of the year. Reclaim them in the fall.
Get rid of the old boxes and clutter so there is somewhere for luggage and coats. A presentable room is more welcoming and you will not be scrambling the night before your guests are due.
The Pantry Needs Attention Too
With the baking and large meals the holidays bring, a messy pantry is only going to be a nuisance. Now is the time to put the ingredients in their place and remove anything past its date.

Mud and Laundry Room Prep
When the house is full of people there is bound to be more foot traffic and laundry. Properly arranging the mud room puts a stop to the mess. Have your hooks and cubbies for shoes and you will have a calmer entryway even on a busy day.
A Place to Wrap Gifts
The stack of gifts will mount and before you know it the wrapping paper and tape are all over the place. Set aside a corner of the office or a closet for it. A home office or media room system will put the supplies out of view where they belong, keeping your stock in one spot and the gift a secret.
Look Beyond the Season
Of course you can do a cleanup. Yet if you are at odds with the same clutter from year to year, perhaps the closet is to blame. A custom made system will put an end to it.
